Coach Whitney Macon
College Walk-on Turned Pro Marathoner and Coach
Whitney found the marathon after running collegiately at Harvard University as an undergraduate and the University of New Mexico as a graduate student. She was part of UNM's first NCAA national title. Whitney has run in two Olympic Marathon trials and holds a personal best of 2:32:20 in 2025. Currently Whitney coaches collegiate runners at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, as well as post-collegiate road, track, and trail runners of all ages and distances.
As a coach, Whitney focuses on consistency over intensity. Instead of overreaching on any given day, she utilizes long-term aerobic development and moderate intensity training, with key race-specific training sessions when needed. This intentional approach helps prevent both physical and emotional burnout, allowing athletes to feel their best on race day. Whitney is detail-oriented and loves digging into lifestyle and mindset factors that can affect running performance. Whether honing in a simple warm-up routine or talking through race-day emotions, Whitney sees the athlete as a whole person and uses this holistic approach to maximize each athlete's happiness in addition to their performance.
